What do the numbers 16-1546 mean to you? Probably not much. But what do you get when you create “an animated and life-affirming shade of orange with a golden undertone”? Pantone’s 2019 colour of the year Living Coral.
Living Coral has been simultaneously described as vibrant yet mellow, sociable and spirited and lively yet soft. But how could this year’s playful colour work in and around your home?
Below we have shared 5 clever ways as to how you can inject Pantone’s Living Coral into your home this season:
1. Complement and contrast
Cool and warm colours coupled together always creates a beautiful harmonious balance, and Living Coral is no exception.
To create a complementary and stylish contrast in your home, opt for pairing your coral items with delicate colours such as icy blue, seafoam green, mint and aqua. Just imagine a lightweight cosy coral and turquoise blanket - spot on for initiating a fresh ocean breeze or tropical vibe in your bedroom this Summer.
TOP TIP: Do an online search for the colour wheel. Complementary colours are the two colours which are on the opposite side of one another on the wheel. By using colours which complement one another, it will mesmerise both the eyes and the mind.
2. Keep it natural
When discovered underwater, healthy coral is not always the same colour. You may come across a reef in a glistening gold tint, a peachy sunset shade, an ocean blue tone or a soft pearly white hue - that’s the beauty of nature.
Remain in touch and within the forms of nature with coral coloured floral arrangements. Flowers such as roses and peonies will look gorgeous stationed around your home in a glass vase, regardless of whether they are a real or faux bouquet.
P.S. If you really want to bring the beach home, pair coral and beige objects together. Not only does it escalate the warmth of the space, but it also echoes the colour of sand. Fuse in a few gold accents, and you’ve just sprinkled in an element reminiscent of the sun… And there you have it, Summer chic in your own home!
3. Make it romantic
Out with the old, in with the new. Think of Pantone’s Living Coral as a new contemporary alternative to the conventional romantic colours of peach, blush and pink.
Add an undertone of romance to your home with coral accent pillows and cushions. Not only are they a soft piece of upholstery, but they can also be used as a decorative item to showcase your personality and interior style.
TOP TIP: A coral coloured candelabra would look stunning placed on your tablescape during an evening meal - it would also be a fool proof accessory to set the ambience during your Summer date night in at home.
4. Play around with patterns and textures
Clay, concrete and stone are just a few of the materials you can use to explore coral toned textures in your home. A ceramic coral carafe would not only feel silky smooth when using it, but would look flawless sitting on your kitchen island during a family brunch.
With its golden undertone, Living Coral adds an alluring warmth to any space - dream up how inviting a patterned coral shaggy rug would look and feel in between your toes underneath your living room sofa.
P.S. You can add a cheery luminance to almost every home furnishing item you own, by upcycling it with a fresh lick of paint. From planters, photo frames and sideboards, everything looks full of life when coated in coral.
5. The great outdoors
With daylight remaining with us a little longer during summer, who wouldn’t want to spend more time mingling outside?
As a result of the sociable, intense saturation and playful nature of Living Coral, it works perfectly when used in communal spaces. From pouffes, side tables and lounge chairs, coral adds a bold energetic vibrancy and can be such a conversation starter and mood enhancer.
